Secret Santa

It's Christmas Eve Eve, and It still doesn't feel like Christmas yet.

I work in a gym, and reception has been decorated ready for Christmas since the end of November. I've never accepted any sort of Christmas preparations or celebrations until after my birthday (December 9th) so I wasn't best pleased when I turned up at work to see a Christmas tree stood up in the corner with fake presents scattered underneath and tinsel and lights drowning the desks. One of my colleagues has spent the last week or two jumping around whenever a Christmas song has come on the radio.

Today, work closed up early and the majority of the staff gathered in the cafe (Pelicans) for a drink, a mince pie and to exchange Secret Santa gifts. Some members of staff were unable to make it today so I told them that they could drop off and collect their gifts during the week running up to today so that they would still get their gift in time for Christmas Day. Although, some gifts have been left in 'Santa's Sack' and will need to be collected after Christmas, and one gift still needs to be put in 'Santa's Sack'.

My receipiant was one of these people who couldn't make it so he opened his last Tuesday. As soon as he opened it, he looked at me with a smile on his face and said "it's you, isn't it?!" I got him two bars of One Direction chocolate and a One Direction calendar which is exactly why I think it was so obvious that I was his Secret Santa. The reason for this being that he has told me multiple times about how much he dislikes One Direction and rarely eats chocolate because it's 'naughty' food. I must say that he took it very well and actually found it quite funny.

Since we started drawing names out for Secret Santa a month ago, there were three possibilities of who my Secret Santa could have been. One was my manager, as he jokingly said that he had pulled my name out. Another was my deputy manager and the other was one of the fitness instructors as they were the only two who never told me the names that they had pulled out.

When I returned to work last week after my holiday, I figured that it must have been the fitness instructor that had chosen me because at the start of my shift my name was still in the pile of sticky labels and by the end it had gone. I was sure it was her as she seemed to be hanging around reception a lot so I assumed she must have been waiting for me for disappear so she could get the sticky label with my name on. Turns out, it wasn't her who chose me, but I did get some nice gifts.

The boombox doesn't need to be plugged into electricity to work so it'll be useful for beach days, picnics and so on. It doesn't project music as well as electrically powered speakers but you can still notice a difference.

Now, the cookie tin actually came with some biscuits in. The double chocolate cookies went down nicely on the drive home - gone within 5 minutes!

I'm still not sure who my Secret Santa is but my first guess would still be my manager due to the look on his face when I was showing the people sat near him what I was given.

Charlotte.

  1. Haha, found you! That boombox is so cool and I am so jealous of those biscuits, they are my favourite. Stop trying to guess who it is, it's supposed to be a secret! ;) Xx

    1. But guessing is fun - I'm sure we'll all find out next week anyway! ;-)
