To new beginnings
Why hello there, 2017! 2016 has been quite the rush so I feel like you've arrived earlier than planned. I definitely wasn't expecting you so soon! It certainly doesn't feel like a whole year has passed since I was stuffing my face with Chinese food, swearing at Chloe (because Mario Karts is basically life), playing with her doggies and watching the fireworks from the comfort of the sofa with Chloe, her family and her brothers drunk friends to celebrate the arrival of 2016.
This New Year's Eve was spent following a similar suit to last. Despite feeling a little under the weather, Chloe made her way up to mine. I ordered two pizzas for Chloe, Josh and I to share between the three of us from a nearby hotel which were AMAZING! Chloe and I then spent the rest of the evening swearing at Mario Karts and binging on Friends and snacks before watching the countdown with fireworks at midnight.
I'm not one for 'New Years resolutions'. I feel like they're made to be broken - like the real aim is to fail rather than succeed at your goal. For you, 2017, I shall set some maintenance goals rather than resolutions as such. Things that should take place on a regular basis regardless, things that should be easy to continue in doing anyway.
First things first. The gym. My motivation to work out has taken quite the downward turn in recent months, what with being ill, my birthday, Christmas and the general busyness of life happening. Over the last week, I've slowly been getting my mojo back and have taken the odd session here and there. Along with everyone, from the New Year I plan to get back into my routine and make sure I stick to it. Working in a gym gives me the ease to continue for the entirety of the year rather than just the first quarter.
Health. I know, another stereotype of New Years resolutions right here. But let's be honest, I could be a lot healthier! I need to start eating cleaner. If I eat cleaner and work out more often, maybe I won't pick up as many colds. You never know, healthier eating may even help with my migraines. I bought a blender around Black Friday that I need to use more of. While I cook a lot of our meals from scratch, I think I could improve on the quality of what I cook and make our meals more nutritious. I can be a little lazy sometimes with what I put into my meals so I think I need to focus more and spend more time with prepping the food to get the most out of what we eat.
Me time. During 2016, I felt like I spent too much time running round like a headless chicken, needlessly trying to get things done that could have waited. I need to focus on making more time for myself and do more things that will make me happy. During the summer, I read a few books. Granted, we didn't have wifi at the time so I didn't have anything else to do but I really enjoyed the books I read and want to make a habit of reading more often. I also want to have more pamper sessions. I feel like I only have a little pamper as and when I remember when I've got some time spare in between busying myself.
Stop trying to do everything. Please tell me I'm not the only one who's guilty of trying to do too much?! This one links in with my 'me time' as the more I try and do, the less time I have to focus on taking it easy and relaxing. The busier I keep myself, the sooner I tire. This is one of the main reasons I get my migraines, because I don't leave myself with enough time to rest like my body so desperately wants. Instead of trying to rush through life, I need to learn to spread out my plans more evenly, not try to squash so much into one day or one week. I've got plenty of time left to do all of the things that appeal to me. I've got my whole life ahead of me - allowing myself more time to do things will ensure I definitely want to do them rather than just doing it for the sake of it.
Baking and cooking. I have always liked baking and cooking. I've always been one to cook foods that a little more on the healthier side but I tend to lean towards baking cookies, brownies and cupcakes. Nowadays I don't bake anywhere near as often as I'd like to so I need to allocate some time to spending some time in the kitchen. I also want be a bit more ambitious with what I cook.
Blogging. I want to focus some more on my blog. Towards the end of 2016, I felt like I was giving my blog more time compared to the rest of the year. While I did more so in the colder months, I haven't shared as much content as I'd have liked throughout the whole year in comparison with 2015. After committing to almost daily blogging get during December, I've felt a bunch of motivation to blog more regularly. Not quite daily but definitely more than once or twice a month like currently. The redesign of my blog isn't quite complete yet so I'm hoping that a new look will help keep me motivated to continue pumping out content for you guys.
That's pretty much it for my annual set of goals. Of course, throughout the year I'll mentally add to this list as and when I want myself to achieve and/or maintain something.
I hope you all had a lovely evening, seeing the New Year in, however you chose to celebrate and I hope 2017 treats you well. Chloe and I had a very relaxing evening sat in front of the telly with food, candles and games. Once we'd seen in the New Year, our first couple of hours were spent watching YouTube videos of animals. I love our New Year's Eve tradition of food, Mario Karts and movies!
Now, as you for you, 2017, all I can say is let's go! Be good...
Charlotte.
