Best Bits: November 2018

Can you believe we've just come to the end of November already! It seems like just a few weeks ago that James and I barely managed to keep ourselves awake long enough to see in the new year. Yet here we are, heading into the busiest time of year. November seems to have been a very expensive month, with the death of my phone and my hairdryer.

Dogs. Why wouldn't I include this as a highlight? I popped in to see my stepdad's mum a week or so ago and she had her friends two dogs staying with her and her dog Dalla (Dalla is the ginger one infront). The three dogs were all so lovely and wanted so many cuddles, which I just couldn't refuse! look at them though! I want Lottie (the grey dog) - her tail never stops waggling!

New addition to the family. My step sister was very busy at the start of the month, welcoming my new little niece to the world. It was very exciting. While both of my step sisters have other children, this little lady is the first of my nieces and nephews that my mum and I will know from birth.

Tennerfests. During this years tennerfest season, I only made it out for three tennerfests, despite having a list of the places James and I would liked to visit. However, November only sees the final eek of the tennerfest season. Sj and I headed to La Perla, which is one the very few restuarants that actually has a £10 menu for the three courses. Their normal menu isn't much pricier than their tennerfest price and the quality of the food is always nice. I opted for garlic bread, sweet and sour chicken with rice followed by profiteroles. The final tennerfest I went for was with Lauren and Lulu at Les Douvres. You've heard me rave about this place many times before on this blog, mainly for their pizzas, but their other dishes are also just as good. My choices were BBQ chicken wings, pizza diavola and a blondie brownie (best brownie I have EVER tasted in my life and I have been dreaming about it ever since that very first bite).

Week off. James and I booked a week off mid month. While we didn't go anywhere, we had a lovely, relaxing week off. We had lay ins, went for walks, spent some time with family and made sure we were up to date with things around the flat.

Shopping day. My mum had a half day during my week off so the two of us headed off for lunch before beginning our sprint around the shops on the lookout for all of the items we wanted to get our family for Christmas. We also found a couple of items that we decided to pick up to treat ourselves.

Work outing. My manager at my part time job left us this month to leave the island with his wife so a bunch of us got together to give him a little send off. Unfortunately, he chose the worst time to year to leave, as it was gale force 9 winds, heavy rain and high tide, which meant the tide was coming over the sea wall while we were out and we all got completely drenched to the bone! We ended up at the Guernsey Yacht Club which is right on the harbour edge. My phone decided to jump out of my pocket during our mad dash through the waves on the way to the restaurant so it is now lost at sea. On the bright side, I now have a new phone which I had been looking at getting for a while anyway.

Chinese night. Emma joined James and I for a Chinese at ours. It was exactly what I needed that day and was very enjoyable. All three of us went for dishes we haven't had yet or haven't had in a while and watched a movie (I've forgotten the name of it) that was set in the year 2040 (or around that time) and was based on a game that everyone loves playing. Very poor description but it was okay to watch.

Meat draw. James and I met one of his friends at a nearby pub for the meat draw one Friday night. Unfortunately, none of us stuck luck and went home empty handed. After two pints, we decided to head back to ours for pizza and sangria which was a fantastic choice. We ordered from The Italian Job which offer free delivery on orders over £30 so made the most of the offer. My sangria is always very strong but I was lucky enough to narrowly escape a hangover the following day. James and I also finished the month with another meat draw at a different pub and came home winners, with gammon, two steak fillets and packet of bacon and sausages.

Holiday booking. James and made a start on booking our holiday next year. So far, we've sorted flights and have looked at accommodation but haven't settled on anywhere yet. We've also booked a couple of days in Manchester in December which we're looking forward to.

Climbing club social. The climbing club had their AGM this month. We booked out La Lanterna (we had the whole place to ourselves on the restaurants closing night) and were joined by the staff after they had finished serving us our food. We had a selection of chips, pizza and salad while we casted our votes on the committee line up. After the official bits were covered, we drank and socialised and had such a fun and lovely night out. I decided to head home when some members decided it was time to hit the clubs.

I'm looking forward to the month ahead as there is always plenty going on in December and this year is no different.

Charlotte.
