101 in 1001: Get a pet hamster
Everyone, meet Oscar, mine and Joshes pet hamster we bought on a whim just over a week ago.
For such a chubby little thing, he's got so much energy and is so intrigued by everything! As well as that, he is so very stubborn! Just like me.
We've tried feeding some fruit which we plan to get him used to a couple of times a week until we can give him a small amount daily. He's even had a bit a roam around the bedroom most days both freely and in his little exercise ball. Hopefully he won't get too confident as we have a ledge in the middle that we don't want him throwing himself off of like he's tried to do a few times now!
Sj still had the cage she used for her last hamster lying around at home which she was kind enough to lend us for Oscar to live in. We did buy him a little bed/house for him to sleep in, a new wheel that's silent (perfect for nighttime when we're trying to sleep!) and an exercise ball which annoyingly stubborn about to begin with. We've only recently managed to get him actually moving in it.
The staff at the place we got him from said he's pretty lazy and I must admit, he does love his sleep and appears to take awhile to wake up and get his act together - just like me when I wake up for work of a morning! They also were telling us how they named him Pancake so, because we wanted the name Oscar, we apparently had to give him a middle name and call him Oscar Pancake.
As you can probably just about make out from the photos, we've got for the whole blue and green theme in his cage. Green carry cage, house/bed, food bowl and ladders. Blue levels, wheel and exercise ball. We even got him a see saw that mostly consists of blue and green, with a bit of added purple and yellow!
When I first posted my 101 in 1001, I never had any plans to get myself a hamster so soon. I literally just woke up on Sunday morning and decided we needed a pet hamster.
Charlotte.
