Best Bits: May 2018
I can't believe that we are almost half way though the year already! Has anyone else found that this year is passing us by in the blink of an eye?
Scott's birthday. We kick started the month of May with Scott's birthday. To celebrate, a bunch of us went on a rib voyage tour around Sark. After the one hour voyage, we went for lunch at The Pickled Pig. We headed there purely to sit outside in their beer garden. It was lovely and peaceful, so warm and sunny; it was such a relaxing environment to enjoy our lunch while avoiding the crowds of people that swarmed the high street of St Peter Port. There was a cruise ship visiting and town is always chocker blocked with tourists and almost unusable for locals when a cruise ship docks.
Bank Holidays. May blessed us with three Bank Holiday's (the Channel Islands celebrate Liberation Day - the anniversary of being liberated from WW2 Nazi occupancy - in May, hence the extra UK Bank Holiday). The first bank holiday was spent fairly relaxed. James and I didn't do all too much for Lib Day this year, although we did wonder into town for a quick mooch before heading off to meet Scott for a walk along the beach and a few drinks, accompanied by dinner at Les Douvres. It was such a relaxing afternoon!
Movie Night. Chloe had Rosie and I round for pizza and a movie night. We spent the evening on the sofa with the doggies while watching The Greatest Showman. We picked up our pizzas from The Italian Job so I was very tempted to order myself a milkshake, but I restrained.
Work Social. The MD at work left us this month and I was left with the task of arranging his leaving do. We headed to a nearby pub, hired a room there for the evening and had a few drinks and nibbles to celebrate his time with us. It was nice to socialise with other teams, especially being based between two buildings - it's not everyday that you get to speak to everyone.
Bank Holiday Bike Ride. Chloe, Rosie and I went for what most would call a short spin on what was the last Bank Holiday until August now. After our cycle, we headed back to Chloe's to watch Pitch Perfect 3. We had actually planned on watching the Pitch Perfect movies (or at least start watching the trilogy) during our last pizza and movie night but we got preoccupied by pizza and The Greatest Showman. I must say though, while I enjoyed the views and doing something different, I don't think I'll be taking to cycling for a very long time - it just wasn't worth the pain I was in. If you know what I mean... TMI?
Bank Holiday/anniversary brunch. James and I celebrated our first anniversary over the bank holiday weekend. While we decided we wouldn't celebrate properly until we're away, we thought it would be nice to at least go for brunch while we had the opportunity on our extra day off. We headed to Dix Neuf and both went for a full English. It really hit the spot. For dessert (of course you have to get dessert), I only fancied ice cream, while James opted for crème brûlée.
Self care sessions. I came down with the WORST migraine I've ever had mid month. I felt like I was dying (slightly dramatic). Whenever I have a migraine, I always treat myself to a good sleep and a face mask (once I feel like I can't sleep anymore). You know when you have one of those naps where you don't feel like you've actually slept? Well I started with one of those, despite actually sleeping for an hour and a half, so I got up, lit some candles, ran a bath and did a hair mask and facemask thinking that's what normally helps me feel more human after a migraine. Apparently not this time, as an hour later I felt like the worlds strongest man had taken shovel to my head. Multiple times. However, this bank holiday weekend, I decided to treat myself to another self care/pamper session after I woke up to find I'd hit my sleep goal again. I shaved my legs, thoroughly cleaned my face, moisturised and took the morning nice and slow.
German. I've recently starting learning German, in preparation to at least try and speak the basic lingo when James and I visit Germany later on this year. I had originally downloaded the Rosetta Stone app on my iPad so I could do a spot of language learning at home during my lunch hour or whenever I had a spare 10 minutes but then I got as far as I could without paying. I was considering paying to unlock the full app, however it turns out it costs a lot more than I was willing to pay. As it happens, I had a 'German for Dummies' book hidden in a box at my grans from when I moved so I've been picking that up here and there just to starting getting a few phrases put together in my head. I've not long discovered the box comes with a disk as well which I'll have to have a look at soon.
Have you also enjoyed some lovely hot summers weather this month? I've been loving the smell of sun cream! The only spot of rain that we've had here in Guernsey this month has been during the last week - it's been uncomfortably humid.
