Change of surroundings

Middle of last month - Monday 18th, to be exact - Josh and I spent the evening after we had both finished work moving into our new home we will be living for the next year. Or longer, provided the we, and the landlord, want us to stay on!

Rather than opting for a flat like most people I know of, we have gone for a wing. When we first started looking, we were also looking at flats as well until we saw this place on our estate agents website. The photos we saw on the website didn't really do it justice so we didn't have high hopes before our first viewing. However, a viewing was definitely needed as its more spacious in person than the photos make it look.

If you read my first installment of On The Horizon last month, you'll know that the wing comprises of a lounge, kitchen, bathroom, bed, mezzanine (which we're now using as our dining room), a spare room (which isn't the right space to have as a lounge or second bedroom so we are using it as a fun/games room as well as a storage room) and one parking space.

The landlord is really friendly and lives in the main house next door which is pretty handy in case we need him for an emergency with the wing. He's also more than happy with us having Oscar in the property with us.

It's located in quite a convenient area to say it's so far out from most things to do on the island. We have three shops near by, two of which are on the way home from work. There's also a chippy, a Chinese, a pub and the cinema all only a one minute walk away as well!

The only inconveniences I guess you'd say is that we both work down at the other end of the island, all of our friends live down the other end of the island (well, all but one) and our families live down at the other end of town as well. Two of my colleagues live just around the corner from us as well so I know who I'll be calling if I ever need a lift to work! Haha.

We also have wooden floor in the lounge, kitchen and fun room which is perfect for Oscar as we got him a wheel that has a little motorbike attached to it. He hasn't been strong enough to pull the motorbike all with him on carpet but now that we've got the wooden floors he can go as he pleases which has been hilarious to watch! Plus, the flooring isn't too cold for him either. Also makes cleaning the house a much quicker and easier job.

The first night we moved in, the place was an absolute mess! I had the following two days off to decorate and unpack which proved pretty difficult as I had no idea where to even start on Tuesday morning. Plus, I couldn't remember which box contained what so trying to find the things I wanted to start off with was a nightmare. Especially as I'm one of these people who will start on one thing, then get distracted half way through by something else so I'll end up half way through five different things at once. Can you picture how my day went? No all fairness though, I surprised myself as I managed to get some sort of basic structure in the first two hours of unpacking. The rest of that week was spent putting the last little bits in place and our final box was unpacked on the Sunday of our first week here.

So far, so good. All is currently going okay with the place. It's actually surprisingly quiet to say the property is based on a busy main road right next to the airport. Only having one space hasn't been as much of a nuisance as I thought it would be. Although having two spaces would be much more ideal than having to fight for driveway and the loser having to park at the cinema or the pub just around the corner.

Charlotte.
