Getting 'me' back
Over the past couple of months, I feel like I've lost touch with my usual self. I used to be so... different. I spent quite some time yesterday trying to put into words how I used to be but couldn't get those words off the tip of the tongue and into this post. After some time, I think I got there. Let's take a crack at this now, shall we?
Watching how I phrase this; I've noticed a wave of laziness has overcome me. For those who know me well (I'm aiming this at Chloe in particular), I was pretty lazy anyway. But now, my oh my, said laziness has gotten so much worse! This laziness has sucked away at my motivation, causing me to continue hitting snooze on the three alarms I currently have set for a half hour every morning before work. It also has turned me into a couch potato - I come home from work, cook and eat dinner before getting into my pyjamas and spending the rest of the evening on sofa watching Gilmore Girls.
As well as wasting (I imagine Chloe will not be happy with my choice of wording there. I'll probably look back at this post in the fiture and be disappointed with my word choicing also) my evenings watching Netflix, I've not been to the gym anywhere near as often as I need to go, should be going and used to go.
There are plenty of things I'd love to do with my time; I'd love to go for walks, get back into the gym, read more, blog more, actually get around to booking myself a holiday, have pamper nights, spend more time with my mum and step dad, my gran and my friends. But I spend more time than I plan to curled up on the sofa binge watching series.
In the past, I was still pretty lazy. Lazy in the sense that I took my time with the pace of my evenings and weekends. I guess you could say it was a relaxed kind of lazy - now I've transferred to a busy kind of lazy. Does that make sense? Busy kind of lazy as in not doing anything for an hour (or morning/afternoon/evening) and then rushing around like a headless chicken once I've realised just how much time I've actually wasted not doing the things I had planned on doing. By the point I've finished, I don't feel particularly rested.
In an attempt to get 'me' back, I've decided to try and change my daily routines. The decision to change my routines to get back to the old me came around last weekend. Despite being exhausted and on the verge of a migraine, I had a late night both Friday and Saturday night, meaning I had a late start to my days and didn't quite get to do as much as I'd have liked to have done.
Now, while I used to allow myself a slow start to the day, I still managed to get pretty much everything I wanted doing done. That's what I want to get back to. I also want to get back to steady gym routine. The only way I'm going to achieve this is by getting up earlier and going to sleep earlier.
I also want to eat healthier. Stupid question: have you noticed in my last couple of On The Horizon posts that I've mentioned the whole healthier eating thing? Yes? Well, I thought so, it has become quite the regular occurance in this series. As has getting back to the gym and updating my blog.
With the above in mind, I headed over to Amazon earlier this week to order myself some protein bars/shakes and some preworkout tablets - Praise the Lord for Amazon Prime! My reasoning for this purchase is as follows. In order to get back into the gym as well as have my evening free, I plan to go to the gym in the mornings before work. To have the energy to go the gym first thing in the morning, I'll need my pre workout tablets. I'll also need a protein shake for after my sessions. To eat healthier, I'll need to eat less chocolate and more of the right things. I plan to replace some of my chocolate consumpution with protein bars.
Of course, I dont plan on giving up chocolate completely. Nor do I plan on giving up my binging on Netflix. But, by getting up earlier and getting the gym done in the morning, I get the best of both worlds. My Amazon order isn't due to arrive until Monday so the next couple of days will be spent easing myself into this new change so it isn't so much of a shock to the system. I also want to eat cleaner. I want to eat more meat, more veggies, less quick meals. While I still want meals that are quick to cook, I want more of a variety of meals to put on the table each evening.
I don't usually do these kind of posts. But hey, here's to a change. Or multiple changes, in the spin off of this post. Granted, this post may seem like the type of post a blogger would share around the New Year as part of their New Years resolutions but around the New Year, I was still in denial of my newly discovered laziness and lack of motivation. So now seems like just as good a time as any to get to it with my path to redescovering to my old self in a fresher version. I guess that's how I'd word it, as the change I'm hoping archive is a basically a newer version of the old me.
I plan to get my motivation back, my fitness back, my happiness back. I want to add in a few extra bits, like hobbies. I want to be able to actually get on with the hobbies I keep wishing I did, like photography, reading, blogging (properly), baking. For months now, I've been saying I want to bake more often. The same goes for blogging, cooking, going to the gym.
Have you ever found yourself falling off track? If so, how did you get back to normal?
Charlotte.
