101 in 1001: Watch a Broadway show

James and I booked our tickets to a Broadway show back in early May. We were torn between The Lion King or Aladdin but opted for The Lion King at The Minskoff Theatre. The show was brilliant. I had seen the West End version in London three and a half years ago and once when I was a child but seeing The Lion King again but in Broadway was just spectacular! I feel that our timing was pretty good, as Disney are reproducing the movie version next year.

One of my colleagues said he saw Aladdin in Broadway last year which he thought was brilliant. If I go back to New York (which I definatley plan on doing), I will be booking tickets to Aladdin, and Frozen because James rejected this suggestion for our recent trip.

So when we arrived at the theatre, there was a short queue out of the doors, but we quickly made it through and into the building, where we went through security and were directed to the correct floor to get to our seats. Right outside the door to the seats was a bar with snacks also available. James and I treated ourselves to sangria, Hagen Dazs ice cream and a chocolate bar (Twix tastes better in America than in the UK), which of course, were all finished before the end of the first scene. The sangria lasted a little longer, until just before the interval. It's amazing how the show was produced. The costumes are so creative and I love how the cast also come into the audience at times.

We actually had quite a bit of trouble originally obtaining the tickets. As you would, I tapped "Broadway shows" into Google, looked through the top searches and clicked onto what anyone would assume to be a legit site called 'Broadway Direct'. Turns out, Broadway Direct is not legit. I got charged a little under £1,000.00 for two tickets (which weren't even issued). Luckily I checked my bank balance straight away and my bank were able to cancel the payments immediately.

Best advice I can give to someone looking to see a Broadway show: phone the box office or visit the shows direct website.

Charlotte.
